Default Smifforums RPG

SMIFFORUMS Brings you its new and exciting RPG.
The world changed when Aziraal, the god of war, was slain in the huge battle long ago. The hordes of Orcs lost their divine leader and were forced to withdraw to the southern wastelands. Now, thousands of years later, the location of Aziraal's tomb is still unknown, well hidden by other gods who did not dare to entrust the secret to mere mortals.

However, now, a fragile peace between the civilized races and the hordes is at stake. When the dwarven mining expedition discovered an ancient temple dedicated to an unnamed deity - all of the world's most powerful factions saw it as a possible clue to the place of Azriaal's burial ground. A silent war has now begun and it will soon ignite the fires that will lead to the holy crusade of the Orcs. However, the real danger lies somewhere else. A powerful force churns silently - weaving a secret plot of fear and destruction. In the end one of the Two Worlds will remain.

The story of "Two Worlds" begins in an age torn by war. The Orcs have advanced to the south bank of the river Gon and are threatening the Kingdom of Cathalon. While this is happening, the hero, a wandering bounty hunter, is searching for some clue as to the whereabouts of his sister, whom he hasn't seen since her settlement was attacked three years ago. He unexpectedly receives vital information from a mysterious stranger - and immediately joins a Dark Brotherhood (or so it seems). Now the time has come for him to try understanding the game's powerful forces - and to learn how to use them! This is the only way the hero can survive - and get the answers to the questions that are burning in his soul – Who is behind this secretive kidnapping? Will he ever see his sister again? Where is the Tomb of Aziraal - and what role does the mysterious, yet helpful stranger have to play?

Will he learn the nature of a shadowy figure that almost killed him in the town?
Will he learn what happened to his friends?
Will he ever meet his sister again?
Finally, what will he do with the power to choose only one from the Two Worlds?

This RPG business - role-playing games - I have been wondering about it for some time - not specifically on Smiffs, just in general - you know...

A few years ago, Sly, myself and a few friends were trying to get together a small group of people interested in the fantasy role-playing game of AD&D - we had been forced to pause the game we had been running for a few years as some players had moved overseas and so forth and so we were a bit short of players - ANYWAY - we advertised here on Smiffs and received a rather 'cool' reception to say the least - isn't AD&D evil? aren't we devil worshippers? and all sorts of judgmental pappyshow - we went to great lengths to defend this pass-time as it was viewed with great suspicion... sadly, the game never did get back off the ground.

The thing that perplexes me about this vibe is that computer RPGs, in fact all RPGs developed from the original game of Dungeons & Dragons, which I dare say was born out of the ideas in that seminal work of literary fantasy, Lord of the Rings.

Right now it seems that all sorts of people, including those vehemently opposed to D&D, are playing them - Diablo, World of Warcraft, Balder's Gate - you name it. These RPGs generally have a starting storyline very similar to that posted above by Aaron. What I want to know is why the (largely) Christian detractors of the D&D RPG genre of games find it acceptable to play these games on their PCs and online but find it highly suspicious when a group of real live people sit around a living room and play the exact same games using dice and rule books instead of random number generators in a program run by a machine?

Anyone care to discuss?

The history of RPGs is a long standing one that dates way back to a time where it was just pen, paper and imagination. SMITH, I do recall the incident that you speak of and it was an unfortunate one, while D&D did not receive a warm reception some members did express genuine interest in the game and requested that you guys provide information on what was actually involved.

D&D is plagued with mis-information and a dangerous reputation. Anyone who have played RPGs are aware of the base similarities between them, D&D is no exception.

Most persons are skeptical when they hear the word D&D because it has been given the reputation through the years of a dark demonic game that exists not just in the imaginary world but in the physical and spiritual. Anyone interested in doing research would quickly find many articles detailing fatalities, murders, suicides, killings and the like attributed to the dabbling in D&D.

In light if this it's no surprise that there is an automatic apprehension when the subject of D&D is raised. It has been singled out from all other RPGs.

D&D is different because its is an open ended and open scripted game meaning that the story unfolds at the behest of a Grandmaster[GM]. In contrast, other RPGs (computer based) strive to give players an open, non-linear gaming experience but they are all scripted to a certain degree. Hence the reason one cannot easily compare and catalog D&D.

Its because of this distinct characteristic that D&D is susceptible to being maligned.

I do hope that many will be curious enough to try the SMIFFORUMS RPG and experience it for yourself.

RPGs can be a fun, entertaining an great gaming experience.
All it takes is a bit of creativity and imagination.

You mean you have an actual working RPG here at Smifforums?!? Where do I sign up? And can I bring along my vestments, incense, tomes and staves to the party? There's a new spell that I'm dying (well maybe not me dying heh heh heh) to try out.

Oh come on!!! It's not like there aren't dozens of you who STILL think that I am a closet Satanist.
